From a very early age, I was surrounded by the antique dolls and toys of my mother’s antiques shop. So when I approached an auction house for an internship naturally my main interest was the dolls and toys department. I was invited to come and ended up staying for the next twelve years. First as a student, then, after I got my Master’s degree in the History of Art, as a full time employee. The excitement of waiting to see what people might bring in, never stopped. It felt like Christmas each time a special find appeared from someone’s attic.
In 2003, I felt it was time to venture out on my own. I started my own business; Antiques Toys Amsterdam. I already lived in a house with a shop front, so starting an antiques shop seemed the obvious next step.
A famous Amsterdam antiques dealer said dealers should never trade in the items they collect, as customers might think they keep the best things for themselves. I prefer to disregard this advice completely. I believe I can only sell things with sincerity, if I love them myself.
I am specialized in dolls and toys from around 1900 and earlier periods; wooden and papier-mâché dolls and toys, paper toys and children's games from the 18th and 19th Century are my core business.
