About John Quinlan Fine ArtAs a young person I was always interested in drawing. Later, I became interested in painting, and my appreciation for fine art grew and matured during my 11 years working for an art and antiques auction house on Cape Cod. The auctioneer and his wife were very gracious in sharing their knowledge and eye for art with me, as were many of the dealers with whom I interacted. During that time, I taught myself to paint, researching at local libraries and reading up on the lives and working techniques of artists whose work I admired. Subsequently, I worked as a manager in protective services and visitor services for 18 years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Being exposed to that institution's fine collection of paintings on a daily basis was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience for me. I made many friendships while at the MFA and met some wonderful people, most notably my wife Janice. In my private time, I have always enjoyed going to yard sales, estate sales and auctions, searching for paintings that caught my eye.
The paintings I enjoy and offer for sale are representational or realist, including still life, landscape, marine, portrait and genre scene paintings, generally from about the mid-19th century to today. Being from New England, I am drawn to works of this region but not exclusively. I have great admiration for the work of the American Impressionists and today's painters who continue the tradition of Classical Realism. Ultimately, I buy what I like and I hope that you will like the paintings I offer here. I also strive not to forget the remarkable people who created these paintings and to tell their stories when I list their works.
Having purchased artwork myself online numerous times, I understand the concerns that a prospective buyer may have. I will always describe the paintings and their condition honestly and will provide detailed photographs of each. I am happy to answer any questions you may have or take more photographs on request. I want you to be pleased with your purchase with zero regrets. To that end I stand behind every item I offer for sale and if you are unhappy for any reason I will be happy to facilitate returning the item via the Rubylane Return Policy.
