Offering a rhinestone choker style necklace by Schiaparelli, circa 1940's. Schiaparelli was a fashion icon who had a significant presence in the fashion industry between the world wars. SHe had an "anything goes" attitude and was influenced by the Surrealist and Dada movements. Yet she also produced fine costume jewelry displaying great design and timeless style. She ceased production in the mid 1950's. This luxurious necklace is an example of her timeless elegance. It is exquisitely made and it very striking. The choker necklace consists of rhinestones of varying sizes that are encased in silvertone forms. Most of the rhinestones appear to be prong set. They are clear and glisten, shine and sparkle. There are small silvertone "dots" surrounding the rhinestones, these "dots" appear to be jewels at a distance and they add to the glimmer of the necklace. Each articulated piece, there are 8, are sculpted to flow and curl. The pattern is exceptional and glamorous. Each piece is 1 3/4" w and 3/4"h. At each end there is a string of rhinestones which end at a hook at one end for closure purposes. The necklace measures 16"+, not including the hook. The back is silver rhodium plated and the "Schiaparelli" signature is stamped on the back. There are no issues with this necklace. I can see Ginger Rogers wearing this necklace with Fred Astaire while twirling to "Dancing in the Dark." This necklace brings out romance, sophistication and charm. Just gorgeous!!!!!
