Button it up with a set of steely Victorians. This rare, matching domed quartet is entirely paved with faceted round steel beads encircled with faceted navette steel beads. Each of the beads is individually riveted to it's base for superior strength and durability. So beautifully bright cut and polished, many would describe cut steel as resembling black diamonds. It was used extensively in buttons and buckles of the period.
Each of the 4 buttons in the set measures a generous approximate 1 1/4 inches across with a 1/4 inch dome. Round cut steel beads are about 3 millimeters; navettes, about 10 millimeters x 4 millimeters. Each has a U shaped loop on reverse for attachment. Weight of the set is approximately 28 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original, correct and intact. All cut steel beads intact and securely riveted in place. They have acquired a lustrous pewter tone patina. No verdigris. Metal free from dents, improper bends, crush or collapse. All button loops secure, retaining proper shape and lift. Extremely clean. No polishing done. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The buttons date circa late 1800s.
