Kramer, aka Kramer of New York, a major player in costume jewelry's heyday from the '40s-'70s, produced rhinestone, enamel, rhinestone, thermoset, and in very limited quantities, sterling, as in the bracelet presented. Kramer also created a special line for Christian Dior in the '50s-'60s, as well as it's famous Amourelle division in 1963. Kramer, like many other costume jewelry houses, ceased operations in the late '70s.
The rare, sterling silver bracelet presented, circa 1940s, features three rigid diamond shapes, formed with chaton and marquise rhinestones. Double bands of chaton rhinestones connect and secure at ends with a push in box type clasp and detachable safety chain with early thumb spring ring closure. All stones are prong set in sterling silver. While the diamond shapes are rigid, the flexible double rows of rhinestones facilitate a fabulous fit and feel. The decorative portion remains attractively positioned at the top or "show side" of the wrist.
The bracelet measures a fixed approximate 7 inches x 1 3/8 inches at it's widest point. Flanking diamond shapes are about 1 inch wide. Double band width is approximately 3/8 inch. Largest marquises are about 9 millimeters x 5 millimeters. Chatons are approximately 5 millimeters. Weight of the bracelet is about 26 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones uniformly clear and brilliant with no dark, cloudy, yellow, dull or dead stones. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All settings and connections secure. All soldering secure. Clasp and safety chain strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The bracelet is signed on reverse with a modified oval cartouche: "KRAMER" underscored with "STERLING". Although many sources do not give specific dates for "Kramer Sterling" we believe the bracelet, due to the use of sterling, in conjunction with design, materials, construction and overall presentation dates circa 1943-1949.
