It's a rare treat when a piece of Capri jewelry surfaces. Sol Smith's New York City company was producing from 1952 to 1977. Surviving inventory can be a challenge to discover so it is with pleasure that we present this wonderful '60s vintage japanned Maltese cross brooch / pendant and earrings demi. The cross pin / pendant is done with an array of teal green, Capri blue and jet black chaton and navette rhinestones. Matching shield style clip earrings, utilizing the teal and blue rhinestones sans black navettes, complement. The brooch, featuring a concealed hook on reverse, can also be used as a pendant on your favorite necklace chain.
The brooch / pendant measures approximately 2 inches across with a 1/2 inch profile. Large center green chaton rhinestone is about 14 millimeters; green navettes, approximately 17 millimeters x 5 millimeters. Square clip earrings are about 1 inch across. Center green chaton rhinestones are approximately 7 millimeters. Weight of the earrings and pin / pendant set is 50 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All cup set rhinestones intact, retaining color and sparkle. Japanned finish (akin to black enamel) intact, fronts and backs. There is some minor finish loss to contact points on clip paddles, not visible when worn. Pin mechanism, pendant hook and earring clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Minimal wear. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed "CAPRI" preceded by copyright symbol. Circa 1960s.
