When Bob walked in and said 'Did you notice that there are birds around this pin?', I thought the old boy was starting to hallucinate from too much time at the computer. But Bob must have the eyes of a hawk because he's right...there ARE birds around this pin!
And what a pin it is. It's simply, gorgeously, stunning. The back is gilded (looks like Russian Gold a la Haskell's jewelry but is not marked). The back's outer edge looks like petals of a flower. Turn it over to the front and those 'petals' have beaks and eyes. They flit around the outside edge of the ornate floral pin. There are smoldering aurora borealis stones...a big one in the center and navette and round stones accenting the little flowers, the white seed pearls and the fine gilded metal work.
The pin measures 2 7/8 each way. It rises up about 3/4 inch, piled high like a smörgåsbord of jewelry delight. The back has a secure rollover clasp.
Excellent vintage condition with all stones appearing intact. Like a smorgasbord, this pin is visually filling...and very satisfying. Circa 1930s - Austria.
