"In Tumbledown Town", was written by Wilbur D Nesbit and illustrated by John Gee (aka Johnny Gruelle of Raggedy Ann fame). Published by the P F Volland Company, this collectible book was copyrighted 1926 and is a sixteenth edition.
Volland Publishers were known for the fabulously illustrated children's books and are highly sought after. This delightful story tells the tale of Timothy Tumble, his wife Teresa Tumble and their three children -- Tommy Tumble, Teddy Tumble and Totty Tumble.
The book begins: "If you travel along Runabout Road, you will come to the foot of a hill. Runabout Road runs around the hill. Of course, it has to do this, or it would not be true to its name. But right at the foot of the hill is a sign that says: 1 Mile to Tumbledown Town."
The last page of the book describes the Volland Company's "ideal": Books for children should contain nothing to cause fright, suggest fear, glorify mischief, excuse malice, or condone cruelty. That is why Volland books are called "Books Good for Children".
This vintage children's book is unpaginated. It has brightly illustrated board covers and is in very good vintage condition. There is some mild bumping on the cover's corners and mild shelf wear to the spine in the form of some very mild separation of the paper at the top and bottom. The book has illustrated end papers. The pages are clean and the binding is tight. The collectible book measures 7 3/8 inches by 6 inches and will be shipped First Class mail unless otherwise requested.
A sweet, collectible book to add to you children's literature collection or to decorate any nursery decor.
