Presenting a pair of Coro heraldic shield gold tone enameled screw back earrings circa 1921 - 1933.
These early Coro earrings are in excellent vintage condition with no loss or chipping of enamel. They measure 1.25" x .875" x .675". They are visibly hallmarked Coro in cursive, but straight without a slant. This signature was used by Coro from 1921 - 1933. The earrings close securely with screw backs.
These heraldic shield earrings from Coro and are spectacular, rare and very collectable. They are in a heraldic shield style with Red, White and Blue enamel in a gold tone metal. There is a entire language around the images and colors in these types of emblems. Shield shapes vary according to the geographical origin as well as the time period. The shape of the Shield is not important, the colors and charges (lions, designs, etc. that appear on the shield) are. Below is an interpretation of the emblems and colors of these historic earrings.

1. Gold Crown with a Tudor Rose on its crest with Laurel Leaves - GOLD is generosity and elevation of the mind. LAUREL LEAVES are for peace, triumph and victory. CROWN with Tudor Rose is emblem of monarchy of England.
2. Red section with Tudor Crowned Lion standing on 4 legs and facing forward in red ermine spotted section - RED is for warrior, military strength and magnanimity. ERMINE spots are for dignity. TUDOR CROWNED LION - LION is for the stalwart. FOUR PAWS DOWN is in peace. FACE FORWARD is for watching and guarding.
3. Blue section with Fleur de lis - BLUE is for Truth and Loyalty. FLEUR DE LIS is the emblem of France and represents a claim to the throne of France.
4. White section with Tudor Rose - WHITE stands for peace and sincerity. TUDOR ROSE is the Emblem of England and associated with the royal House of Tudor.
