Staffordshire Childs Flow Blue Saladier
SEAWEED or MARBLE
Attrib. to Minton Staffordshire England c1840
This delightful child’s wine cooler or tall fruit bowl was originally part of an English childrens toy dinner servie. The round cup stands 2” tall. The deep bowl measures 4 1/2" in diameter, and the plate measures 4 1/2" in diameter with a scalloped rim. The piece is transfer printed in a deep cobalt blue or flow blue decorated in an overall marbleized motif that looks like seaweed or marble stone. The design is a classic example of the Victorian love of nature and the exotic.
The tureen is unmarked. The pattern was also made by several other English potteries of the same period including Dimmock. The pattern and form of this particular piece is attributed to Minton potteries in the Staffordshire region of England c1840.
The piece is in great condition, with no chips cracks or repairs. Kiln dust, kiln kisses, tiny divots and minor glaze crazing consistent with age and typical manufacturing imperfections, adding to its authenticity.
