This is a very interesting piece. It is a sage glazed in the Sancai tradition of Mustard Yellow, Cerulean Blue, and Jade Green. He is seated next to a brush washer for calligraphy brushes. He is holding something that I am having difficulty identifying. It may be the drum-type bamboo instrument that is played by hitting with sticks. The brush washer has been made with a very interesting rough surface with areas of dark glaze to look more realistic. This is certainly a wonderful addition to any Asian collection.
Country of Origin: China.
Size: 5 1/2" diagonally width; 6 1/4" tall.
Condition: Overall Very Good. One foot peeking out from the bottom of his robe could have small damage. The other foot at first drew my attention, but looking close it appears to be the way it is made.
