About Us
G. H. Wilke was begun in Arlington Heights, IL in 1929, during the Depression, when watchmaker Gil Wilke took over a floundering shop. Grandpa W was known for his integrity, his perseverance and hard work. He moved across the U.S. to California in 1946, where he found a bedroom community he thought would embrace his dreams. Though we no longer accept chickens for payment as he did, almost 90 years later we still try to maintain a simpler and more personal relationship with our customers. We have learned so much from them over the years. We are extremely grateful for the wonderful people who have allowed us to share significant parts of their lives. We view our "sales" more as "adoptions", since it is our desire to match jewelry with their new owners. Jewelry is all about love and passion and connections, including past with future.

We have an eclectic collection of antique and estate jewelry. Our brick and mortar also has a good selection of modern jewelry, so please don't hesitate to contact us if you see something on our website or want us to find something for you. Email is probably the best method of contact outside of store hours. Telephone is best when we're open.

Our in-house specialty is custom work. Our very skilled goldsmith, Dario, translates dreams into reality with the touch of a craftsman. He was originally going to pursue architecture until his path was diverted by jewelry and he thinks like an architect when he designs.

We listen to you because you have hopes and dreams of your own, and the artistry of jewelry connects us all through something primal. We have successfully selected engagement rings for women we've never met, based on what a nervous young man says, and by getting input from her family and others who know her personality. We have altered inherited jewelry that needs a tweak here and there to become the "Best Loved" by a new generation. We have collaboratively designed wedding rings using family stones. Gifts for babies, baptisms, high school/college graduations, 50th anniversaries - we have helped people through it all. What a joy to be a part of all stages of life! We are members of CJA (California Jewelers Association), JA (Jewelers of America), JVC (Jewelers Vigilance Committee), Rotary Club of San Gabriel, and Chamber of Commerce.

I started with Wilke’s after marrying into the family, with no retail experience whatsoever. After working for my father-in-law and sister/brother-in-law I realized how much I’ve always loved bright, beautiful things and how much I enjoy working with people. Dario and I purchased the store in January 1999 and we’ve continued trying to make people’s lives better through jewelry. It may sound trite, but the jewelry industry is a very caring and charitable industry world wide, and we work on improving our little section of the globe. The joy that jewelry signifies in lives can be transforming and it is our pleasure to help you.
