About Us
Our Crew has opened their cherished Treasure Chest for your personal plunder. Their specialty is in Fine Estate Jewelry, Magnificent Rare Coins, Antiques, Ancient Artifacts, and Historical Relics. However, in their many wanderings, they have amassed a little bit of everything for everyone.Located in the historic “Holy City” of Charleston, SC, we have been in pursuit of the nonpareil, the marvels, and the unparalleled for decades. Our fine eccentric family-owned establishment has been in business for over 40 years, and we are delighted and honored to share our Treasure Trove with you. In 1988 the current ideation of Treasure Hut was brought into being and quickly became one of the largest buyers of diamonds, gold, and silver in the Lowcountry and surrounding areas.
However, the founder; Medford Chason, has been in business since the tender age of thirteen when he began by excavating antique bottles from a long-abandoned garbage dump near his family’s tobacco farm in Southeast GA. He and his best friend dug thousands of bottles and sold them to nearby antique stores. It was not uncommon to see Medford selling coins and arrowheads to fellow classmates as early as the sixth grade.
The love for the hunt, discovery of hidden gems, and collecting grew with frequent visits to local antique and coin stores where he would often sell the items that he had discovered. What turned into a hobby became a passion and eventually developed into a full-time career, and some would say obsession. Medford quickly became an expert in many fields such as -
• Numismatician
• Philatelist
• Relic Hunter
• Speleologist
• Gemologist
• Auctioneer
• Appraiser
• Master Goldsmith
• American Picker
• Antique Dealer
• Diamond and Gem Dealer
• Underwater Artifact Recovery
• Knife Dealer and Aficionado
• Writing Instrument Dealer and Connoisseur
• Expert Jewelry Designer and Manufacturer
• Luxury Estate Liquidator
Just to name a few areas of specialization. The knowledge that he is continually passing on to everyone who is fortunate enough to be under his tutelage.
A collector of collections - the owner has amassed a wealth of knowledge and extraordinary Treasures that are waiting to be shared with our patrons. This lifetime pursuit has transfigured into a Treasure Trove that has been carefully curated from auctions, luxury estates, trade shows, gem shows, to the acquisition of inventory from the dissolution of shops across the country.
Between Medford and his beloved wife Linda, who has been in the Jewelry Industry since 1957, they have over 100 years of combined knowledge and experience. The Captain and his Crew pride themselves on their vast Treasure Trove, and respectfully proffer their plunder to all fellow Antique and Vintage aficionados. Our hope is that you will be fascinated ~ and fall in love ~ with the wealth of rarities, relics, high-end luxury items, curiosities, and collectibles we have to offer – from exceptional prehistoric fossils to delicately exquisite Victorian Era jewelry, to One-of-a-kind Civil War memorabilia.
