About Us
The Stockade, built in 1936 by the WPA (Works Projects Administration), began as a granite stone and steel structure that was home to the prisoners of Pickens County, SC. For 32 years, the prisoners of this county labored to build the roads, bridges, and county buildings. They were shackled at the ankles and forced to endure hardships beyond our imagining. The prisoners were moved to a larger, more agreeable location in 1968. The building was purchased by my family and boarded up, rented out for storage, and mostly abandoned for 40 years.
We sold our Chevrolet dealership of 55 years in 2007. As we moved decades of collections and special interest, we began to realize we had collectible automobilia in those boxes. The old stockade began to house our stuff. As the reality of a business emerged from the dusty, dirty ruins of the old prison, Stockade 'n Stuff Antiques came to life as a new and emerging enterprise.
My love of antiques, combined with the good fortune to have been brought up in the genteel old South has been the cornerstone of our business.
Working with my husband, we collect the finest antiques from local estates. Many of our European purchases come from dealers with whom we have formed lasting relationships.
Come marvel in the mystery of the old stockade as you consider purchases from the past. They may become your family's future heirlooms.
