We aim to please! PERIOD!About Us
I'm Matt Burkholz and I’m an antiques dealer, and Route 66 West is the culmination of a decades long journey as a historian and purveyor of fine vintage jewelry and decorative accessories. Raised in New York and Miami Beach, I’m an art historian by training and my approach to what I do reflects that academic vision and combines it with 40 years owning and operating galleries in New York City, Miami Beach, the Berkshires region of upstate New York and now, since 2007, in fabulous Palm Springs California. Throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s and the 21st century, I and other dealers and collectors built all the objects and examples within the varying categories of vintage costume and couture jewelry and accessories in which I specialize into the treasured and sought after objects they are today. I am firstly, a dealer of fine 20s and 30s Celluloid and Bakelite jewelry, and wrote The Bakelite Collection in 1997, the leading reference source on the subject extant. Prior to that, in 1992, I authored Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Lustre, the only dedicated project to the special style of mid century modern copper and enameled jewelry, and have written pieces on vintage couture costume jewels, celebrity collectibles and mid century acrylic jewelry for many magazines as well. Television appearances on Martha Stewart TV, The Antiques Roadshow and other productions are present on my resume as well. Brick and Mortar gallery is now closed. Only by appointment in my office/showroom or right here on Ruby Lane or Facebook or Instagram!
