About Us

I give full credit to my early interest and love of art and antiques to my mother, who educated me by sending me to classes at the Chicago Art Institute and to private art teachers, as well as dragging me around with her to all the fascinating antique and second-hand shops on Chicago’s North Side. These rich experiences provided me with a background for the appreciation of the creative process. I am happy to admit that this appreciation has turned into a life’s work, as I have been involved in buying and selling antiques for more than three decades.

Asking me why I prefer the traditional British model of country house decorating is like asking me why I prefer lilies to all other flowers in my garden; it’s simply a preference. Also, I’m certain that while pursuing my inventory I was influenced by experiencing first-hand how the British live with their heirlooms. I usually stay at bed and breakfasts in older homes as well as stately homes, where I can witness their fervent attachments to family treasures that have been handed down from generation to generation.

I have over thirty years’ experience selling beautiful and decorative objects, paintings and needlework throughout the United States from all walks of life, including top designers and decorators known for their elegant but casual English country house style. I have given lectures at antique shows, been interviewed on both radio and television, and written an article on Victorian Berlin woolwork embroidery. I have also sold needlework and samplers to several museums, including the Baltimore Museum of Art. My primary interests include British 18th and 19th century needlework, romantic and sporting paintings, 18th and 19th century porcelain and pottery, and all kinds of decorative objects that are considered part of the English country house style.

Experience and expertise in my chosen interests, fair pricing, and a commitment to customer satisfaction are the values consistent with my business philosophy. Since customer satisfaction is one of our main goals, along with establishing long-term relationships with our customers, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns. We hope our experience here at Ruby Lane helps you create the type of interior that makes your home unique, reflects your taste, and gives you a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.
