This wonderful holiday calendar is beautifully decorated on the outside with fun picture treasures behind each little window. A nice rendition of St. Nicholas is seated with small children, cherubs everyone, gathered around him. Angels adorn the entire picture, some playing musical instruments and a few with toys, one cuddling a teddy bear. A doll, a stick horse, a train and a doll house are among the other Christmas presents. The blue boarder has ornaments, pinecones, candles and angels and the entire image is enhanced with glitter. Hidden in the picture are small doors numbered from 1 to 24. Behind each door is a cute picture. Many a child has delighted in calendars like this in counting down the days until Christmas with door number 24 typically being a rendition of the Nativity scene. On the back is an explanation of the calendar and it is marked; Printed in Western Germany. This has been used but it still has its original cellophane sleeve. I believe this from the late 1940’s or early 1950’s.
It measures about 9 ½” 13 7/16” and is in nice condition with edge and corner wear, some wrinkles and a few problems. As stated this was used and possibly for more than one year as was common. All of the windows have been opened and have a creased edge. Three windows are in bad shape. #12 is torn at the hinge but still there. #8 has been torn and taped on and door #4 is missing completely. All of these, in the bottom right corner, can be seen in the close up photo. The cellophane sleeve is yellowed, crinkled and torn which gets worse every time the calendar is removed and returned.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
