This piece of old pottery was made in Mexico and was probably used as a little dresser jar although it could be used to hold potpourri in a bathroom or used for something like garlic in the kitchen. It is colorfully decorated in the fashion of many pieces from the Tonala area. The lid of the jar features a yellow bird and a small, blue butterfly. The base of the jar has large yellow flowers and big green leaves. The base has three small feet and they are not glazed. On the inside of the lid it is marked Mexico.
It measures about 2 ¾” high with the lid on and about 3 ¼” in diameter at the fattest part of the jar. It is in very good condition with minimal wear and no damage.
