This colorful old teapot is fashioned as a black mammy face. She has dark brown skin and curly black hair and nice facial characteristics. Her chef like hat is the original lid. The bottom is marked; Hand Painted - Japan and it is from the 1940's or 50's. It was painted rather crudely and it is all under glaze including the black blemish on her right cheek and the dark spot on the spout. Her left cheek looks like there is a little grit under the glaze. This small size would probably have been for one or two cups of tea.
It measures about 4 1/4" tall and 5 3/4" from handle to spout. It is in very nice condition with minimal wear and no damage.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
