This is an old model kit from the Scale Model Division of The Hubley Manufacturing Co. of Lancaster, Pa.. The front of the Indianapolis 500 Racer box has a sharp Indy racecar speeding around the track with fans cheering the driver on. It also reads; Actually Steers - Screwdriver Assembly - Made of Metal - just like the original car (apparently the parts are die cast zinc). This was an unassembled kit with custom decals, plastic accessories and real rubber tires.
This kit is partially assembled. The chassis and the motor housing are assembled. The motor needs to be mounted on the chassis and the body parts need to be assembled onto the frame along with the seat and windshield and the plastic hubcaps need to be added to the wheels. Some of the decals have been applied and others are still on their original paper backing, although they may be too brittle to actually be used and if the car were to be painted the applied decals would be useless. I can’t say for sure that there are still enough screws to finish the project but I believe there are and it appears that all other parts are accounted for. The kit did originally come with a file for precision fitting but that is not included with the kit now. The kit, in its partially assembled state comes with its original box and instruction sheet. I believe this kit was made from 1959-1961 and not reissued after that time.
The completed car will measure about 8 ¼” long. All of the parts seem to be in good condition with no damage to the metal or plastic pieces. As previously stated, the decals are probably not usable. The instruction sheet has some small tears, creases and overall light age discoloration. The box measures about 10 ¼” by 11 ¾” by 1 ¾” and is in fairly nice condition with overall edge and scuff wear but no torn corners.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
