This old two-part tin Easter egg is a fine example of the lithography done by the Chein toy company. Both the front and back have the same Easter design. A bunny wearing an apron and a chef’s hat is carrying a tray of colorful dyed Easter eggs. Perhaps he’s getting approval from the mother hen and her fluffy little yellow chicks. The green grass and little flowers finish the spring theme and the entire picture is framed in a pretty robin’s egg blue. It has the J. Chein & Co. - Made in U.S.A. logo on both sides also. The inside of the refillable egg is also done in blue. I believe this is from the late 1930’s - 1950’s.
It measures about 5 1/8” long by 3 3/8” wide and about 3 3/8” thick. It is in very good condition with good gloss, bright colors and minimal scuff and scratch wear. The worst scratch is across the rabbit’s apron on one side which can be seen best in the last photo.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
