This old ice cream dipper was manufactured by the F.S. Co. of Troy, New York. It is made of nickel plated brass with a painted wood handle. The round bowl is a large, size 8 bowl (eight scoops to the quart) and it is marked on the back of the bowl as well as on the wiper. On the back of the lever mechanism it has the patent date of Mar. 23 19(15), the last two number are obscured but it is documented to that date. The thumb lever reads; Clipper F.S.Co. Troy, N.Y.4.
It measures about 11 ¼” in length and the bowl measures about 2 ¾” in diameter. It is in good, but used condition. The spring mechanism works well. The plating is in generally good condition with minor blemishes and there are a few spots where it is worn down to the brass. There are nicks along the shaft from being rapped against an ice cream carton edge. The finish on the handle is good with minor signs of wear, primarily near the ferrule wear it has some chips. Overall it's a very clean ice cream scoop in original condition.
