This thick glass paperweight from the late 1800's is an old advertising piece for the Hesse & Sturges Jewelers of Boise, Idaho. This is also a wonderful adverting piece for Boss pocket watches with an image of an old watch illustrated in the center. The watch case has an elaborately etched design and at the top, over the stem, it reads; Boss – 14K. Above the watch it reads; Hesse & Sturges, Manufacturing Jewelers. Below the image it reads; Diamonds, Watchmakers and Engravers, Boise, Idaho. Across the very bottom, outside of the decorative ad boarder it reads; Standard Adv. Co., Coshocton, O(hio). The back is slightly concave with a slip of opaque white glass that is then covered with what appears to be plaster and paper.
It measures about 2 ½” by 4” by 7/8” thick and is in very nice condition with light wear. The top of the glass does have fine scratches which are noticeable at certain angles and lighting and I have tried to show them in the photos. The back has some damage which is not affecting the front. There are some light scribbles and some has carved the initials CHD. Along one edge the composition layer has been damaged and there is one small chip along the bottom edge which I have pointed out in the photos.
The pictures are not shown at actual size. Please refer to the description for actual measurements.
