About Us

Welcome to our shop La Poupée Chérie. Our motto is: "We pursue the elusive and cherish the traditional with passion and integrity".

We are lifelong collectors and longtime dealers passionate about dolls, particularly those from 19th-century France. Therefore, when we decided to combine our shops, we chose a French name, "the cherished doll". We have the pleasure of regular trips to Paris to find treasures for our customers. We delight in finding original dolls from their original owners' families. Today, these are primarily found in Europe. Our shop is eclectic. We have combined specialties in antique French and German bisque, European cloth, and Russian dolls from pre-revolutionary times to contemporary artists, china dolls, French fashions, Motschmann, and wooden dolls. You will find lovely antique or artist-made costumes and other accessories as well. Our dolls have factory original or antique costumes whenever possible, and they are always dressed appropriately for their period.

To tell you a little bit about each of us, this is from Joan.
I collected dolls as a child, then put them away through my Ph.D. graduate school years, internship, and early practice as a clinical psychologist and professor of psychology. Cultural Anthropology and Russian Area Studies were academic minors of mine, thus my serious interest in early Russian bisque and Wood dolls. At 40 I fell in love again with Madame Alexander's Blue Fairy Cissette and from there began collecting bisque Nancy Ann Storybook dolls, Russian cloth from pre-revolutionary times and Lenci children, then German bisque and French Bebes and fashions and finally early 19th-century woodens. I began setting up at doll shows in the 1990s. I've had a store on Ruby Lane since 2006. For 15 years, I had a brick-and-mortar store in Indianapolis attached to my psychotherapy office. I found the dolls and bears to be an essential respite for me after a day of working with trauma survivors, and my clients, too, derived great benefit from visiting the doll or bear rooms. I still read doll books voraciously and love to continue learning and sharing knowledge with my customers. As was my practice as a professor, if you ask a doll or bear question that I cannot answer, I will try to help you find the answer through research or contact an expert in that collecting area. Since 2008, I've had the opportunity to travel widely in Europe, lecturing and giving Training. This allows me to broaden my hunt for dolls, particularly in England, France, and Germany. I love the "hunt," which includes searching for special client requests.

Now, some info about Amy:
Since 1997, my husband, Phil, and I have been selling through our eBay shops, foundfavortoo and mykidsdadtoo. We have a lot of positive feedback and return customers through those venues, representing our commitment to our customers and our ethics.
We buy from local midwestern Estates and European sources to bring different items to you. I first went to Paris to hunt for dolls in the 1990s and after a break for graduate school in Marriage and Family Therapy, I returned to Paris with Joan to resume the hunt. I am passionate about American Cloth dolls and in particular those made by Martha Wellington. I hope to write about them someday when I can discover more about Ms Wellington and her business. If you have any information about Wellington dolls, I am happy to learn of it from you. Additionally, I have a particular interest in the early dolls such as Chinas, French Fashions, and papier mache. Their stories are the subject of my day dreams.

While we cannot be experts on everything, we guarantee our items to ensure there is never a problem. We want you to be a delighted return customer for many years. We describe our items to the best of our ability and are always open to questions or additional information. Most importantly, we guarantee all of our items. If you are not 100% happy, we encourage you to return your item for a full refund because your satisfaction is our priority. When you shop with us, you can be assured that all our merchandise is smoke-free. We believe in transparent pricing, with no additional handling fees, and we always require insurance on our dolls unless a specific arrangement is made. We welcome flexible layaways or offers allowing you to own your dreams' dolls. As proud members of NADDA (the National Antique Doll Dealers Association), we adhere to their strict guidelines for accurately identifying antique dolls and ethical selling standards. This commitment to excellence and our adherence to industry standards are a testament to our dedication to providing you with the highest quality and most authentic dolls.
We have participated in the UFDC Salesroom for 15 years and do NADDA Shows. Amy was a long-time Gaithersburg dealer, and we will resume this show in December 2024. We set up at the Ohio National Show, the Kane County Show, The Northern Ohio Show and occasionally at others. Sign up for our newsletter to know where we will be.
