As a young person I had a keen interest in drawing. Later, I turned my attention to painting, and my appreciation for fine art grew and matured during my 11 years working for an art and antiques auction gallery. I gained valuable experience and insight working with the auctioneer daily and interacting with dealers and retail buyers. During that time, I taught myself to paint, researching at local libraries and studying the lives and working techniques of artists whose work I admired. Subsequent to that, I worked for 18 years at a prominent art museum. Being exposed to that institution's fine collections on a daily basis was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience for me. I made many friendships there and met some wonderful people, including my wife. In my private time, I have always enjoyed going to yard sales, estate sales and auctions, searching for paintings that catch my eye.The paintings I enjoy and offer for sale are representational - including still life, landscape, marine, portrait and genre scenes, generally from about the mid-19th century to today. Being from New England, I am drawn to works of this region but not exclusively. I have great admiration for the work of the American Impressionists and today's painters who continue the tradition of Classical Realism and painting en plein air. I am a big fan of color and good design. Ultimately, I buy what I like and I hope that you will like the paintings I offer here. I also strive not to forget the remarkable people who created these paintings and to tell their stories to the best of my ability. I also enjoy highlighting the occasional underappreciated or forgotten painter and presenting their work with a fresh view.
