About UsI have been collecting antique and vintage jewelry for many years. First in England then and in France. My shop logo shows a photograph taken in 1956 of my French partner's antique dealer/brocanteur grandfather and grandmother (M. &. Mme. Petit of Amiens) with the pony and mule drawn carts they used to transport their wares, hence the French roots go back some years.
I worked for Sotheby's auctioneers in Billingshurst, for Stephen Somerville of the Antiques Road Show and for Halcyon Days (assistant for 18th century enamels) and later became an independent jewelry dealer. I have a BA/MA from Oxford University and an MA from the Courtauld Institute in History of Art, with the 18thC as my specialist era. I have given "talks" for the Open University, the University of Surrey, the Workers' Educational Association and Adult Education.
I have eclectic tastes and am drawn to quality and beauty in many different periods and styles of jewelry (and the occasional jewelry related objet de vertu). Since moving to France I have learnt more about French jewelry and also jewelry from the French Colonies in the Americas, the West Indies, North Africa and Indochina. I am fascinated by Berber Tuareg adornments.
My favourite piece which I have sold to date is an 18th century French cut steel tiara which would have dated to before the French Revolution in 1789.
I am attracted to pieces which have a history and I am interested in the role each piece of jewelry has played in the lives of previous owners, be it a tiara, a christening medallion, an engagement ring, a mourning locket or something special to wear everyday. If you are hunting for something in particular please let me know as I may possibly have it in stock or be able to find it for you.
I LOVE my jewelery and discover all I can about each piece. Everything I sell has initially sparked my interest and appreciation and I hope it will yours!
