Welcome to our shop on Ruby Lane. Andy and I would like to give you a little information about us and our business. We are both life long collectors, I started collecting antique dolls at age 12, Andy began collecting antique toys at age 9. My mother, Roberta Roberts and I, were regular fixtures at New England doll auctions and doll shows in the 1970’s. We soon decided to venture down to Pennsylvania and began setting up at Shupp’s Grove flea market, where i precipitously met my friend and mentor Richard Wright. I was a high school girl sitting on a lawn chair when I saw a handsome young man with long hair, dressed in the latest mod fashion from London walking through the grove. I couldn’t believe when he stopped at my booth and asked about my dolls. I soon realized who I was talking to, he was already a legend in the 70’s. He bought all my good French dolls that day and I knew I would move to Pennsylvania and become a full time doll dealer. This decision did not excite my school guidance counselor who was pushing me towards a more traditional career. Of course I didn’t listen to any advice from my elders, and moved to Pennsylvania when I was 18. I quickly made many friends in the doll and antique world who helped me learn the business. It wasn’t easy, and I had my share of pitfalls and mistakes, but ultimately I learned the most important lesson, be fair to people and they’ll be fair to you, and if they’re not, then just move on.
Andy’s story is similar to mine, you may have seen him on the Antique’s Roadshow, where he appraised dolls and toys for 10 years, and he was an auctioneer for 25 years, his favorite sales were the Mary Merritt Doll Museum and The Richard Wright collection.
We love this business! We have met people from all walks of life. We’ve traveled throughout the country going to auctions, shows and visiting collectors in their homes. I’ve seen what I can only imagine is millions of dolls. I love dolls and carefully chose what we sell. We’re proud of each and every one, and if you purchase a doll from us, I want you to love it. That’s our reason for being in business.
We appreciate that you’ve taken the time to read this and get to know us a little better. Now that our business has moved mostly to online ( I’m writing this during the quarantine) I think it’s good for you to know that Andy and I are childhood collectors who chose to become dealers because we love this stuff. Our customers who know us, know that, but we may never meet our online customers and we want you to feel that you know us.
