A true heirloom quality locket. This locket dates from the 1830/1850s. It is crafted from 14K yellow gold. This is one of the most beautiful lockets I have set my eye on in a while. The locket features Etruscan revival work on the front that surround the most spectacular insect display. The insect (fly)Is crafted from 14K Yellow Gold. It features rose-cut diamond eyes, a square cut emerald thorax, a jelly opal abdomen, and Rose cut diamond wings (four rose cut diamonds in each wing 2.5 mm down to 1.5 mm). The little creature also features 6 legs that rest upon a royal blue enamel background. The fly is pinned in the center and riveted from the back. There is no movement to the insect it is completely stable resting upon its enamel perch. The backside of the locket is smooth with a couple of indentations, but nothing major. The front of the locket is in fabulous condition with a normal patina, no damage, simply a little nibble on the mounted emerald. This locket bears no hallmarks but tests as 14k solid gold with natural untreated whole gem stones.
