This is a lovely highly decorated Niello Silver Belt dating from 1896-1909. This belt is fully hallmarked with the Russian standard 84 kokoshnik mark on the buckle. Each silver dome is also hallmarked with the kokoshnik mark as well as an Assay hallmark. This belt is crafted from 875/1000 parts of Silver, just a bit under Sterling Silver. The dagger buckle is heavily etched encompassing lovely niello work. At each end of the buckle is the inscription of "Кавказъ" (Caucasus). Each side of the buckle is adorned with brilliant blue turquoise in a crescent with a star in the center. The dagger fits through a loop and secures the buckle in place. The belt consists of double niello domes which are then attached to a bar of cabochon natural earth mined turquoise of varying color from age. All of the turquoise are present and original to the belt. This is truly a work of art like no other I have had the pleasure of viewing in a very long time. The belt is a generous size of 36 inches long which can be extended or shortened by adding or removing links. The condition of this belt is dent and damage free. There has been some older soldier repairs on the inside and there are a couple of replacement jump rings which connect each link to one another. I think this belt is absolutely stunning especially with the turquoise accents.
