This is a lovely jeweled brooch - Sarpech (Turban Ornament). It is crafted from solid 18K Buttery gold. It dates from the 1950's-1880's. This ornament features very intricate open work on the front as well as the back. It is meant to have the point down toward the forehead and a feather adornment is placed in the open slot at the top and pinned into place. The ornament can be worn at a brooch into days time with such rich history. The center of the ornament is adorned with old cut rubies. The rubies are a deep red and inset into the ornament. Alternating the rubies are two round pearls. The is a but of surface scratches on the center which was probably done when the pearls were reset. Other than that it is in fabulous condition. The pin backing is hallmarked 18K and tested (entire piece was tested and confirmed 18K). The clasp is a rolling C clasp which functions properly. Such a unique piece, I would have loved to know who wore this gem........
