This is such an unusual brooch. The top slides left or right to reveal a handsome man with a long handle bar mustache. The photo is faded over time, but really an great photo. This piece is crafted from 18K yellow gold with the French eagle hallmark at the c Clasp (hallmarked and tested). The base is back onyx which is adorned with a scalloped design. Each scallop features a fluer de lis. Moving up are pinned natural pearls. The top features a greek keep design with a lovely agate stone which is in a crimped setting. Inside is the photo locket which has a original glass frame then the photo, under the photo is a sliver of mother of pearl which acts as a backing for the photo. I did not delve any further, but there is another layer under the mother of pearl. The top slides left or right which is pinned at the south portion of the locket. It is lifting a bit bit does not slide freely. I suppose one tried to lift instead of sliding the top, but noted. Other than the slight lifting this piece is in excellent original unaltered condition. Normal minimal wear. The back of the onyx is buffed at the east portion, perhaps there were initials or it may be original, but it is not considered damage in any way.
