Truly an amazing Brooch..... This brooch is of French Origin (hallmarked with the head of Mercury, France's 18K export hallmark). It dates from the Victorian era, mid 1800's. It features old mine cut diamonds, natural pearls and very fine enamel work. The design is very fluid in appearance. Perhaps a rendition of a grape vine???? The leaves are covered in a fine royal blue enamel with the gold veins of the leaf popping forward. There are 6 Old Mine cut diamonds, individually set in a crimped setting. The diamonds are very clear to the eye and vary in size, but very visible. There are also 10 round natural untreated pearls which are drilled and pinned (reinforced with jewelry's epoxy). The brooch is finished with a lovely drop natural pearl which is also drilled at the top. The craftsmanship is amazing on this brooch, extreme care to detail was expressed in a very visually appealing way. The enamel is in excellent condition with no loss or damage noted. The pearls are all original and full of luster. The diamonds are very clear to the eye. I note that two of the diamonds appear to have a tiny chip on the upper right corner. I am unsure you can see this with out a loop because of the characteristics of the old mine cut.
