Exquisite French Fan in Shadowbox Frame, Pierced mother of pearl sticks, Elaborate Rocaille Decoration, and late 18th to the early 19th century
I have for your consideration a incredible antique French fan. It is detail and accomplished hand-painting of an outdoor court scene on this French fan with elaborate rocaille work in gold to Louis XV, most likely dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century.
The figures in the scene appear to be playing with the birds in the garden by the central figure. The sticks and guards are mother of pearl, pierced and painted with the flower and the birds, ebonized and gold. The unusual guard also features a mirror decorated around the enamel. The fan is displayed in a shadow box frame made in 1989. The background is green. The sticks and the paper reglued were repaired in complete shape. The fan is in good condition with no holes or fading, just beautiful, vibrant color considering of its age. This piece measures approx.20.87" x 10.63" (53cm x 27cm) and the frame is 23.62" x 14.76" (60cm x 37.5cm).
