I just picked this up from a local consignment shop and don't have any paperwork or other info on these. I just love them and thought that they looked like something you would see in a museum. They are certainly vintage, if not ancient and look great together. I collect and sell Asian items and had never seen these before.
One is a man the other a woman and I guess they are called burial attendants buried with the deceased and used for attending the bodies or spirits. These are on a removable acrylic stand and the male is about 23.25" tall and the woman is just over 20" tall without the stands. They have a gray and orange color and I guess dirt in which some has come off. I am not sure if I should brush off most of it or leave them alone.
They are in excellent condition with some nicks here and there and I understand the holes on the sides held wooden arms which would have deteriorated. Again, I don't know the age and I assume they are most likely vintage and not ancient. They are beautiful and display nicely.
