Update: The information I received from the consignment shop is that the elderly gentleman bought this from a "Caucasian" family (not sure why that is relevant) 35 years ago in the Bay Area. The family had it for many years but he did not know how long and that was all of the information that I could get.
Here is a large and extremely heavy Asian carved stele or stone tablet. It is about 36 3/4" tall and about 16.1/4" wide at the base. The top part has been glued to the base as you can see. I have not tried to remove it and it works fine for me.
I got this from an estate in La Jolla and was informed it was Song Dynasty and 700-1000 years old. I have no paperwork or coa with it, but I know it is a very old piece and is worn. It is carved on both sides and the top looks like dragon scales, there may be a dragon or two there. There are some chips and nicks especially on the edges which I supposed would consist of some losses. It is a beautiful piece and is museum quality. You could keep it outside or if place it in a foyer/entryway or a large room with an Asian decor. It is quite heavy I would guess 200-300 lbs.
You can see a Buddha or Kwan Yin in the center sitting on a lotus base with scholars or other gods around and a carved panel near the top. There is a similar scene on back although not as detailed in relief as the front side. The base has carved lotus leaves as you can see. You will love this!
