This is a vintage (I was told it was late 19th early 20th c, but I don't know for sure) Burmese lacquered gilt temple vessel or betel box. It is in 2 pieces and stands about 15" tall and 13"-14" wide. It has beautiful gold gilding on a red lacquer undercoat with glass "gems". It is quite beautiful and displays very nicely. There is some loss at the top as shown and some missing glass jewels. The bottom rim is just lacquered and has tiny bits of gold gilt but I don't think it was totally gilded.
