Provenance: from the La Costa, CA estate of the former Mrs. Herb Alpert, founder of A&M Records. Her home was an amazing 15,000 sq foot mansion that entertained often. One of the most incredible estates I have seen.

This is a European bronze match safe/holder in the form of a monkey with a basket on his back and he is carrying or moving a cylindrical canister. Incredible detail as you can see and unsigned that I can see. He travels along a cobblestone street and looks to be wearing a military uniform of sorts. He has a buttoned tunic and a sword on his side and what I thought was a nightcap, must be a military cap. The canister has a small finial/cap that unscrews but I don't know what this is for. My first thought was where you would place the used matches but matches go in, they don't come out easily so......

It is about 7" tall x 5.25 x 3.25 inches at the base. There is an old wood bottom that I cannot remove with maybe damaging it. Just love him!
