I just picked this up in Newport Beach and it appears to be an 18th c (possibly 19th) earthenware lion most likely Italian or maybe even French. It is a remnant of something bigger and is attached to an acrylic base. It has some damages but it is truly amazing and displays beautifully.
It is about 7" long and 9.75" tall (all measurements exclude base) and about 3.5" wide. It is unmarked but the face almost looks human and there are breaks and chips and the glued base is cracked although intact and glued to the acrylic stand. It may be some tin glaze or faience light weight clay/earthenware.
