Late 1800's~ Not your average colors in this Log Cabin Quilt, but one with a predominance of old brown and red calicos ~ The black printed cotton sashing makes it a little bit unusual too, creating a nice variation on the log cabin theme.
73 x 88-inches ~
hand foundation pieced on light weight muslin, darkened with age~
There is slight provenance in that it was part of an Illinois collection. A cloth tag has been stitched to the reverse with the particulars.
Each log cabin measures 6-inches and has been treadled to its neighbors, framed by the early black printed cotton sash..
Technically, this great old gathering of cotton scraps is not a quilt until it has is backed and has a binding added, not a daunting project. I think I'd skip that step and enjoy it as a pretty wall hanging just as it is.
