This amazing diamond horse shoe necklace was originally a brooch (missing the back pin) when I received her. The diamonds are all old mine cuts circa 1880s-1890s as is the 9K gold necklace and dog clip clasp I paired her with. The horse shoe is made out of 14K white gold which places the setting circa 1920s-1930s. The total carat weight in diamonds is an estimated 2.5 cts. all bright white in color (estimated H-I in color and VS-SI in clarity). Every thing has been confirmed with acid testing of the gold and each diamond was also tested with my electric stone tester and confirmed. The gold dog clip clasp is hallmarked "9 .375" indicating it is at least 9k gold with the initials "CDB" for the maker. The necklace has a 14K gold jump ring at 16" and another at 18" and weighs 16.8 grams. This is a beautiful statement piece with the estimated 2.5 carats (25 stones ranging from 3-3.5 mm) and is wonderful left alone or layered. She measures 1.3" by 1.3" North to South and East to West.
It is in wonderful antique condition with one tiny flea bite to one stone only seen under loupe magnification which is of no consequence and in no way detracts from the beauty of the piece. In truth, this is expected with old cut diamonds and speaks more to the authenticity of the Victorian era or 19th century stones. In my opinion there is nothing better than old cut diamonds!!
