On offer is a delightful earthenware sugar and cover having red transferprints of Asian animals. The printing was done by the more fine detailed bat-print process and is from the 1830's. Shown are labeled depictions of a dromedary, Abyssinian oxen, and stag deer. The detail is very finely done and on the underside is a printed "H" which indicates the sugar was made by the factory of William Hackwood, his usual mark. There is also what looks like a small impressed mark nearer the rim on the underside which is hard to interpret. Totally useable, this sugar makes a noticeable appearance on display.

Dimensions: The height to the top of the finial with the cover on is 6 3/4". The height of just the base is about 5". The length from handle to handle is 7 3/8" and the width is about 4 5/8".

Condition: Very good. There are no chips or cracks and only what appears, because of a slight roughness, to be a very tiny touch-up to the red enamel trim on the side of the knop and a small touch-up to what was probably a fill to a small chip on the base below the stag, although neither of these is very obvious. The printing is fine, and unworn. The red color is of a good medium hue. The glaze is smooth and unworn.

Early period antiques are quite old, were made to be used, and frequently have signs of age and use and sometimes a small manufacturing flaw or repair. While this is normal and to be expected, I note any known issues in the condition description.
