This is one of our all-time favorite discoveries! Extremely RARE, Bronze Wall hook, with a Central figure of a Gargoyle, Open-Mouthed Celtic Green Man, Griffin, or Monkey (depending upon our heritage). Ornate, poured, Bronze casting, features the central figure's raised ears, curly top-notch, closed eyes, and protruding tongue that immediately captures your attention! Very detailed, Open-work, Bronze cresting consisting of scrolls, banners, beading, feathering and foliage. (Old, but high-quality repair, using the top-of-the-line metal epoxy, to tongue is evident on the back of the piece, permanently securing the tongue. See photo.) We love to display this piece atop a stack of books, but it really SHINES on a wall! Warm, GLOWING, patina, with bright 22K Gold Wash, is a real focal piece! (Note: Some of the more ornate Gargoyle images, can be traced to the Celts, who severed the heads of their enemies in battle and worshiped "said heads" as a repository of divine power. In particular, the popular images of a Gargoyle's head embedded in foliage, with a PROTRUDING TONGUE, dates back to the subject of Celtic worship known as "Jack O' the Green" or "The Green Man," who was believed to promote growth and fertility.) Heavy, with some impressed marks and numerals on the back that we can not decipher. Aged, but in excellent condition, with minor loss to gold wash to areas most frequently handled, but this just adds to the richness of the piece. Very heavy, Measuring 7 1/2"Long x 6" Wide x 4" Deep. A ONE OF A KIND PIECE!
