Large, Gorgeous, Antique Sterling Silver "Whiting, "Lily of the Valley" Serving Spoon, circa 1885. Beautiful Lily of the Valley buds, flowers, and vines flowing all along the stem of the spoon, with long oval bowl for service. Marked on back,"sterling," with Whiting and date impressed stamps. Very old, Old English, script monogram S or F, on reverse. Measures 8 1/2" Long. (Note: The Whiting Silver company was an American Manufacturing company that began in North Attleboro, Mass. in 1866. Gorham Silver Manufacturing Company purchased Whiting in 1924.) Excellent condition, with slight wear to tip of spoon's bowl, along the left-hand side...indicating the MANY years of food-service from a right-handed server!! Not visible to the eye, sight rough area along the rim of the spoon's bowl can only be noted when cleaning piece. (This makes the spoon even more charming!!!)
