Note: The S. S. United States was built in 1952 by United States Lines. This luxury ocean liner was also designed to capture the trans-Atlantic speed record, as it was subsidized by the United States government, with the intention of converting the vessel into a troop-carrier, should the need arise. In the mid-1970's the passenger ship sat vacant in Norfolk, VA, and by 1984, the entire ship's luxurious contents were sold at a well publisized auction in Norfolk, VA. This is table cloth was purchased at the 1984 inventory auction held in Norfolk, VA.
