This antique, Victorian shaving mug is an extremely rare piece, created by Reed & Barton in the late 1800's. It is silver plated, and measures 3 3/4" tall x 3 1/4" in diameter at the base.
What makes this antique shaving mug so unique are the three medallion dog portraits along its bottom, decorative panel. Each portrait is different. One is a Setter, the second one is a Greyhound or a Whippet, and the third looks to be either a Pug or a Boxer. Each one is elaborately detailed.
The remaining decorative panels are covered with a profusion of vines with clusters of berries. The wide spout has a fluted edge. The soap dish that sits neatly at the top, is removable.
The entire piece is in very good condition for its age. It is missing some of its silver plate, and there are a few scratches and small "dings" on the bottom of both the mug and the soap dish.
It is an extraordinary, highly collectible piece for anyone who collects antique silver plate hollow ware. If you are a fan of antique canine collectibles, this wonderful shaving mug could just very well become the star of your collection.
