This wonderful, reclining Collie dog was designed and produced by Mortens Studio. At 3 1/2" tall x 8" long x 4 1/2" wide, he has fabulous detailing, showing rippling fur, as well as that characteristic Collie calm"look". The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition. This dog has a small crack on the top of one ear and some crazing on his chest and neck. Otherwise he is in great condition. If you collect Mortens Studio canines, then this is an opportunity to add a terrific example of this particular breed to your collection.
