Created by Gebruder Heubach, the well-known dollmakers of Thuringia Germany, this porcelain dog looks both strong and gentle. The lifelike detailing shows everything from the furrow in his brow to the muscles that ripple across his chest and back. Sitting at 5" tall x 4 1/2" long x 2 1/2" wide, he is done in a snowy white with soft grey markings, a soft grey nose, and a beautiful, high-gloss finish. While he is listed in the Heubach collection as a Great Dane, he looks very much like a Staffordshire Terrier or an American Pit Bull Terrier. Either way, he is an exquisite example of the Heubach figurines of the late 19th to the early 20th century with the maker's mark impressed on the base of his paw and the blue Heubach factory mark stamped on his underside. Truly a unique and rare find, and an extraordinary addition to any canine porcelain collection.
