This rare, miniature, gilded bronze sculpture of a Greyhound dog was sculpted by Pierre-Jules Mene (French 1810-1879). It was known as "Levrier Espagnol (Diego) Seul, and it is on its original lapis lazuli base. It is signed "PJ Mene" at the front of the gilt bronze base and the "Susse Fres" foundry mark can be noted at the side edge of the base as well. This exquisite sculpture is in excellent condition, with some light age-related wear to the gilding. The entire piece is 3 3/4" long x 2 1/2" wide, and the height of the dog is 2 1/2".
This gorgeous sculpture is so unusual, and so elegant, it deserves a very special place in a your home or your collection.
