A hand made antique folk art walking stick with a Winsent bison horn handle and Malacca wood stick.
The wooden stick is damaged and mis it's horn cap on the bottom.
The handle is made out of four pieces of horn and a little ing. Very good condition.
Made in France mid 19TH.
Size in total. 34,1/2 inch the handle is 13 inch long and the horn is 0,787 inches thick.
History Winsent Bison.
The Wisent or European bison (Bison bonasus) is a species of mammal in the family Bovidae cloven-hoofed. Bisons are together with the American Bison the two last remaining species of the genus Bison. The wisent is subdivided into two subspecies: the lowland wisent (Bison bonasus bonasus) Caucasian wisent (Bison bonasus caucasicus) and the. The latter is extinct. At the end of the 15th century was the wisent all become so rare that measures had to be taken in the form of hunting restrictions.
