*Marquetry, in Spanish is called Taracea. The word comes from the Arab word ´Tarci´ meaning to incrust. Since the 14th century Taracea has been produced in the city of Granada in Spain. It is practically the only place now in Spain where it is still made and seems to be a dying art form. In the making of these items many different materials are used: Mother of pearl, bone, exotic woods and others, giving different finishes and colors to the work. Once all the work is done with the inlay, the finished item is heavily varnished and sealed.
